Joint Select Committee (JSCSMPP) Letter Campaign

As announced at the recent town halls meetings, we have developed a letter writing campaign to help support your communications to the Joint Select Committee Members on Solvency of Multiemployer Pension Plans (JSCMSPP). This bipartisan Committee is composed of members from both houses of Congress in an attempt to “significantly improve solvency of multiemployer pension plans and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation”. The Committee is to vote on a report, not later than November 30, 2018, containing a detailed statement of findings, conclusions, and recommendations and proposed legislative language to carry out their recommendations.

The Committee includes 16 members, consisting of 8 members from the House and 8 members from the Senate and an equal number of Democrats and Republicans. If a majority of members from each party agree on a compromise (6 Democrats and 6 Republicans), the Committee’s recommendation is guaranteed an expedited vote in both the House and the Senate with no amendments. This expedited vote would occur no later than the last day of the 115th Congress (January 3, 2019).

To assist you in your letter writing effort we have provided a sample letter to use as a guide in assembling your communication, as well as contact information for all committee members. I have also shared my own personal letters shown here for your review. I encourage you to put your own viewpoint in your letter reflecting your individual concerns on how these changes will impact you and your family.

As part of the process, please provide me with a copy of your letter so I can include your concerns in my future discussions on this matter. You can forward a copy to me by mail or by fax, see contact information in the footer below.

If you are confused and don’t know how to get started, or if you have a friend who does not have a computer or access to the internet, please contact me directly. Together, we can make a difference.
